New Orleans Hornets: Carl Landry Back In A Hornets Uniform
News around the New Orleans Hornets keeps getting better, after the Chris Paul trade dilema was finally solved yestarday the team then made an offer to bring back forward Carl Landry. Today he signed a one year deal worth around 9 million, this is a great move by the club as he clearly caught on as a player loved by the fan base for his performance when David West went down with an injury late last season. In 23 games as Hornet, Landry averaged 11. 8 ppg while bringing down just over four rebounds.
Those numbers are respectable, but it was his performance in the playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers that helped his name stand out. Putting up 15. 8 ppg and doing an extremely good job in limiting damage by Paul Gasol with his aggressive defense. By adding Landry to the team, New Orleans now has a very strong frontcourt consisting of Chris Kaman, Emeka Okafor, and Carl Landry. Many consider this Hornets team to finish near the bottom of the league, yet I can envision this squad working their way into the playoffs. Welcome back to the club Landry!
Speaking of big men, spring training invitee Brian Butch left camp today on crutches. The 6' 11? product from Wisconsin was brought in to add size as well as his ability to hit jumpers to stretch the defense. The 26 year old was a member of the Denver Nuggets but never played a game. Butch was one of the first invited to camp, so I can only hope the best for him as from word from Monty Williams and other Hornets players he was doing very well. Finally the Hornets have also sent out an offer for Jason Smith to return as well. Smith is still currently looking over offers, but more than likely we should see him back in New Orleans as well for the upcoming season. For a team that was completely undersized last season, we have seen Williams and Demps work to fix that problem. Now they just need to bring in a couple guards to compliment Jack as he is currently the only point guard signed to the team at the moment.
