NBA announces early entries for 2008 Draft
The National Basketball Association announced Thursday that 91 players -- 69 players from U.S. colleges and institutions and 22 international players -- have filed as early entry candidates for the 2008 NBA Draft, which will be held on Thursday, June 26 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Underclassmen and international players wishing to renounce their remaining intercollegiate eligibility and enter the Draft were required to submit a letter to the NBA postmarked no later than Sunday, April 27.
The list of those that filed was highlighted by Darrell Arthur, Brandon Rush and Mario Chalmers from the national champion New Orleans Hornets, and Chris Douglas-Roberts, Antonio Anderson, Robert Dozier, and star freshman Derrick Rose from national runner-up Memphis. Other freshmen on the list include Indiana's Eric Gordon, Kansas State's Bill Walker and Michael Beasley, and UCLA's Kevin Love.
Players who have applied for early entry, but have not hired an agent, have the right to withdraw their names from consideration for the Draft by notifying the NBA of their decision in writing by no later than 5 p.m. (et) on Monday, June 16.
